Interesting

Good but: (a) we found you must follow the guidelines for Infusing Your Tea on the included blue paper. Then the flavour and bouquet are as described. Longer brewing detracts. The second brewing without milk is pleasant indeed. (b) it is a little pricey compared with e.g Dragonfly teas at £5 for 50g from Waitrose, especially with postage. In that regard, it is disappointing that only 50p goes to the RAF charity. (c) the slightly wide Dragonfly tin is easier to access - OK it takes up more shelf space.

Top Notch Brew

Ok so what attracted me first was the RAFA support but then there’s the tea. Tea is at the heart of my every day, and the RAFA loose leaf makes a deliciously perfect cuppa. The ritual of loose leaf brewing is a rewarding part of my day. So support the Royal Air Forces Association and enjoy a truly top notch brew up at the same time.

A real pick-me-up

I brewed this on the strong side first time - high leaf to water ratio - and I was rewarded. What a bracing cup! Malty and complex like all English Breakfasts should be, with some dark treacly notes that border on bitter at the back of the tongue. Bitter in a refreshing way, mind you, just a touch, like a tonic water diluted with seltzer. But throughout is this green, vegetal taste which so strongly reminds me of Darjeeling that if someone told me there was Darjeeling in this blend I wouldn't be the least surprised. Either way, what you end up with is an invigorating, palate-refreshing tea that really sharpens the mind for a little while. I've had a few cups now at different strengths, different numbers of infusions, and every one has been a pick-me-up. I'm not a milk-in-tea kind of person, but this would be pretty good with a splash of milk, or with a cream scone or (as I had it) a couple of slices of buttered toast. That touch of dairy fat, however you pair it with the tea, compliments this blend beautifully. I'll probably subscribe to this tea when my current pack is exhausted!

Beautiful aroma

The tea has a flowery aroma which comes before you drink it. Fresh and noble taste and the ending aroma is different. I can use it for three days… first day I enjoy full aroma and taste, second day I enjoy it like refreshing white tea. On the third day I mix the leaves with slices of ginger, cook them some ten minutes and enjoy it with honey. Or I mix them with rose lemonglass tea. I love it and I will repeat it.

Tasting Notes

A more delicate flavour than a modern Breakfast tea, it has soft florals balanced by smooth, malty notes.
